Frequently Asked Questions

Before You Buy

Will it work with my car?

Yes, if your car has a Type 2 charging port, which is every EV and plug-in hybrid sold new in the UK and Europe since 2018. If you're unsure, message us your car model and we'll confirm.

Should I get a pre-configured kit or build my own?

A pre-configured kit is the simplest option. It comes with the charger and three adaptor plugs as standard.

The standard (7.4kW) kit includes UK 3-Pin, CEE16 Blue Commando and CEE32 Blue Commando plugs. The three-phase (11kW) kit includes UK 3-Pin, CEE16 Blue Commando and CEE16/3 Red Commando plugs. You can add optional adaptors, such as European Schuko, to either kit. Only choose the 11kW kit if you have access to a red three-phase socket and your car supports 11kW charging.

Build your own if you'd rather choose the charger model and each adaptor plug yourself.

How does 'Build Your Own Kit' work?

Choose the charger model, standard 7.4kW or three-phase 11kW. Then add up to five adaptor plugs from UK 3-Pin, CEE16 Blue Commando, CEE32 Blue Commando, CEE16/3 Red Commando and European Schuko.

What if I don't have a commando socket?

A qualified electrician can fit any commando ('CEE') socket for far less than a wall charger installation. That gives you up to 7.4kW from a 32A blue socket, or 11kW from a 16A (three-phase) red socket.

What is three-phase power, and do I have it?

The majority of UK homes are 'standard' single-phase. Three-phase is a higher-capacity electricity supply found mainly on commercial and industrial premises, farms and some upgraded homes.

Only choose the three-phase model if you have (or will have access to) a red three-phase socket. If you're unsure about your property, a qualified electrician can confirm.

How fast will it charge my car?

Charging speed depends on the socket, the charger model, the adaptor plug, and your car. A standard UK 3-Pin socket delivers up to ~2.3kW. The full standard 7.4kW needs a 32A blue 'CEE' socket. The full three-phase 11kW needs a red “five-pin” three-phase socket. The charger detects which adaptor plug is attached and sets the safe maximum automatically.

Your car also sets a limit. Some EVs and most plug-in hybrids charge on a single phase only, so they'll charge at up to 3.6kW from a red three-phase socket. Check your car's onboard charger rating in the handbook or the manufacturer's specifications.

Can I use any adaptor plug with either charger, standard or three-phase?

Yes. Both chargers work with all five adaptor plugs. What changes is the maximum each one can deliver.

The standard 7.4kW charger draws up to 32A and charges on a single phase only. It reaches 7.4kW from a 32A blue socket (CEE32), and up to 3.6kW from a red three-phase socket (CEE16/3).

The three-phase 11kW charger draws up to 16A. It reaches 11kW from a red three-phase socket, and up to 3.6kW from any single-phase socket, including the 32A blue.
