Safety and care advice

Always ensure that leads are fully uncoiled before use, as coiled leads can become warm when used at high currents. Due to the relatively high current used by EVs, we recommend checking the plug fuse clips remain tight annually, or if the plug ever feels warm stop using it immediately. Never plug an EV extension lead into another extension lead. Some EV portable chargers can adjust charge rates, but avoid exceeding 10A for extended periods to prevent damage to your charger, extension lead or socket. The inline RCD (Residual Current Device) is a life-saving device that is designed to minimise the risk of receiving a fatal electric shock. RCDs are active units requiring manual reset each time the power is reconnected.

EV users should assess risks and follow manufacturer guidance before using our EV portable charger-compatible extension leads. We do not recommend blanket use due to varied manufacturer advice and charging scenarios. Compatibility with the charger is the user's responsibility. We are not liable for damage caused extension lead use.

FAQs

How does the RCD protection device work?

The inline RCD devices are active units, which means that the reset button must be pressed each time the power is reconnected, ensuring proper functionality. This is particularly important for timer-controlled EV portable chargers.

Should I set the charge rate on my portable charger beyond 10A?

No. While some portable chargers can adjust charge rates, it is recommended to stay under 10A for prolonged use to prevent damage to the charger, extension lead, or socket. Our extension lead is compatible with a standard UK 13A socket, and whilst a UK 13A plug can supply 13A for short periods of time, it may overheat if that amount of current is drawn for extended periods.

Is it safe to plug an EV extension lead into another extension lead?

No. For safety reasons, never daisy-chain EV extension leads. Our 10m extension lead offers ample range for most customers.

How often should I check the plug fuse clips on my EV extension lead?

We recommend a yearly checkup, or immediately if the plug ever feels warm.
